Hence the £210+ price tag from Apple in place of the £90 OEM version. So, that even a OEM NVidia 7300GT will not work.

The AMD cards do require a backlight mod though. Most of you fall into what I call "Metcalfe's Law" of after six months you start going crazy if you do not have the cutting edge technology. There is also a VBIOS for the Radeon WX 4170 and WX 7100 which are just a rebranded RX 560 and RX 580.

I have used my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) as my daily driver main host system for over seven years. Thing is pundits do not have the same view of the world as normals. PHD Robert Metcalfe "The Father of Ethernet" (inside joke) often told me…"The amount of change in our industry (computer/local area networks) in six months is equal to a decade in any other industry". Thing is as a normal just do not need all that power, and I live in the consumer desktop part of the grid. When adjusted for inflation they would've cost me less than my original Macintosh purchased in 1984. Love when young people talk about the cost. Thing is I was looking very hard at possibly purchasing a base line Mac Studio with 2TB SSD storage with a Studio Monitor. Also the Macbook Air gives me the option to take it with me, and use remotely if I have the need. Thing is with the Macbook Air, and an external monitor like the Studio Monitor I can set these up in a two screen configuration if I want to. Why did I not purchase the Mac mini? Almost came down to flip of a coin Mac mini, or Macbook Air. So I purchased a 27" LG Ultra HD 5K Ultra Slim USB-C Monitor Widescreen LED IPS LCD w/ Webcam – Black – 27MD5KA-B which Apple was selling in in the past in its stores.

Thing was unlike the MacBook Air I purchased could not order/purchase the Studio Display for store delivery. 27-inch is the sweet spot I am looking for. Was going to purchase the 27 inch Studio Monitor to make it a KISS Apple solution. Thing is 27-inch display is the sweet spot for these old eyes.Īfter thinking about it for a few days, and speaking with my best friend this normal decided to purchase a Macbook Air M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 7‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory, 2TB SSD storage. If Apple would have just come out with a basic M1 chip inside the Studio Monitor for us normals as a 27-inch iMac replacement would have purchased that in a heartbeat. So looked at what was going to replace my no longer supported iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with 2TB storage.

All they could talk about was a 27-inch iMac Pro replacement.Īpple dropped the Intel iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch standard and iMac 27-inch Professional models from its lineup. Pundits where not jumping up, and down complaining that there was no 27 inch basic version when the 2020 M1 24-inch iMac was introduced.

Reason Apple will not come out with a 27-inch plain simple M1/M2 series for normals is they themselves along with most all the pundits are not normal's. Feel this was a needed Band-Aid up in the desktop professional box until this point with the introduction of the Studio Mac. Had to do something quick to satisfy the professional production marketplace. This after having to come out with Mac mini Pro, and iMac 27-inch 5K Pro versions after the major fail of the 2013 Mac Pro "Trash Can" version. This normal made a purchase…įeel that Apple may be going back to the four quadrant product grid of consumer, desktop, laptop. Always purchase the tools that best meet your production needs.
